1. Lim Guan Eng Wasn’t A Penangite At First..

His birthplace was actually in Johor before moving to Melaka which he then attended secondary school at Batu Pahat High School. After that, he took a run in politics where Mr. Lim was elected as the Member of Parliament for Kota Melaka for three consecutive terms from 1986 until 1998. Finally he moved to Penang and became the 4th Chief Minister of Penang from March 2008- May 2018 which he is well renowned for being the person that “moved Penang forward”.

2. Lim Guan Eng Met Our Defence Minister Mat Sabu In Jail

30 years ago in 1987 Mr. Lim and Mat Sabu was detained under ISA and placed in Kamunting Detention Centre where they were both in prison under Operasi Lalang.. During that time our Defence Minister Mat Sabu served as a prison cook, and it is through this role that allowed him to mingle about with everyone including Mr.Lim. Eventually, they both grew close by sharing conversations on a daily basis.

3. He Is The Son f Politician Lim Kit Siang

Another victim of the Internal Security Act. Kit Siang was convicted of five charges for exposing an inappropriate arms deal between the government and a Swiss company and again was detained during Operation Lalang in 1987.
He was known as being a fearless voice of the people inside and outside parliament and state assemblies,which led him to be repeatedly politically persecuted by his opponents in the ruling class. Lim Kit Siang is a prominent leader of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), a component party of the current ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition in Malaysia.

4. Lim Guan Eng Is A Wizard At Economics And Accountancy

Mr. Lim graduated from Monash University, Australia in Bachelor of Economics.
He was properly qualified as a professional accountant by 1983. It was then after that he worked as an accountant before beginning his political career. Besides that, he also worked as a banker and even managed to get a post as a Senior Executive in a bank.

5. What He Has Done for Penang

He was the 4th Chief Minister of Penang in 2008 until 2018. One of the greatest feats that Mr. Lim has achieved was bringing Penang’s public debt from RM630 million in 2008 to RM30 million at the end of 2011, a whopping decrease of 95%.
Penang also became the No. 1 state in Malaysia in attracting investments and FDI in 2010 and 2011. By 2013, Penang as a state practically wiped out poverty. Alongside Mr.Lim, Penang also pushed efforts to launch green initiatives such as ‘no free plastic bags’ at supermarkets and banning of polystyrene boxes.This has led Penang to record the highest recycling rate in the country at 32% which is higher than the targeted national recycling rate of 20% by 2020. Penang is on target to achieve a recycling rate of 50% as well as reduce the generation of waste per capita by 50% by 2020. Penang currently has the second highest GDP per capita in the country.
